*Movies are in no particular order. Please use Crtl F on your keyboard to find a particular movie. Movies that got a wide release in the year after their first screening are listed in the next year. For example, 300 (2006) is listed in 2007 because it only got a wide release in 2007.
The ranking of the Best Movies of all Time (between 1999-2018), is highly subjective. But the general criteria is as follows. To be on this list a drama has to have good to excellent character development. A thriller/action has to "thrill" and entertain the audience. A comedy has to have a good plot, solid comedy and good acting to be on here.
For example, Salt (2010) is listed here but The Social Network (2010) isn’t. Why not? Because The Social Network, a drama, didn’t have any significant character development, let alone good to excellent. But watching Salt, the audience was entertained and wasn’t sure how the story would unfold. That’s solid writing.
Oceans 13 (2007) had a real plot (problem), an interesting solution and solid comedy. That’s why it’s on the Best Movies of all Time list. It didn’t have significant character development. But that quality is not highly valued in a comedy as opposed to the comedy itself and solving the problem in a comedic manner. In this case the solution is a smart type of comedy as opposed to stupid-funny solutions.
